Your tooth enamel is very hard, yet there are still times when a hard fall, blow to the face or sports accident can severely damage a tooth. An extreme fracture or broken tooth often causes so much damage to the internal structures of the tooth, that your Team Dental at Burke dentist might need to extract the tooth to prevent further complications.

After your gums have completely healed, our highly trained team of dental professionals can help you understand your options for replacing the tooth’s presence in your mouth. One of the most popular methods we recommend is to install a bridge.

It commonly takes two separate appointments for our dental team to completely restore the lost tooth with a bridge. At the first appointment they examine the two neighboring teeth to make sure they are sound.

Then a dentist will remove the tooth enamel from each tooth, creating a pair of abutments that will later anchor your bridge in place. An impression is made of the area, which is sent to a dental lab, that custom makes your new bridge. At the end of the first appointment, the dentist secures a hard plastic temporary crown over each abutment to protect them.

Once your final bridge is ready, we will call you in for a second appointment. The dentist will remove the temporary crowns and cement the permanent bridge in place.

If you have a severely fractured, cracked or broken tooth, you should call Team Dental at Burke’s Burke, Virginia office at 703-865-8371 to schedule an urgent appointment.
