If you have a cavity that needs to be repaired, why not talk to our dentist, Dr. Michael King about a composite filling? Composite fillings, which are also known as tooth-colored fillings, have three advantages. They bond directly with the surface of your tooth; they contain no mercury which is found in trace amounts in amalgam fillings; and they can be shaded to match the surface of your tooth so that no one can tell that you have a filling. They work very well for teeth that are easily visible and do not need to bear up under the pressure of chewing.

To place a composite filling, the dentist removes the decayed material from your tooth. Then, after shading the resin to match the color of your tooth, he will apply the fillings in layers. Each layer must be cured before the next layer is applied, so composite fillings take longer than other fillings to place. When the last layer has been placed, our dentist will polish the filling to harden it and make it resistant to stains. Composites are stain resistant, but they can be discolored over time by dark foods and beverages. If your filling begins to wear away, it is easily repaired by adding more layers.
